7 Delicious Breakfast Sandwiches You Need To Try In Ottawa
I met my first love at a McDonald's drive-thru. It had been 10:26am. Four minutes late and I may never have met her. The Sausage and Egg McMuffin had swept me off my feet from the very first bite.
They say nothing ever compares to your first love, but I've had a many great deal of breakfast sandwiches in my lifetime and they've been terrific. My heart will always have a spot for the traditional English muffin breakfast sandwich, but the Ottawa foodie scene is rich with so many different takes on the traditional sandwich that it would be a sin not to commend them.
Here's 7 delicious breakfast sandwiches you need to try in Ottawa:
Kettleman's Bagel // 912 Bank St.
A bona fide staple of breakfast bagels in Ottawa. Kettleman's breakfast bagel is an all-day sensation of bacon and cheese goodness sandwiched in between a toasty, freshly made house bagel.
The Wellington Diner // 1385 Wellington St. West
The Wellington's breakfast clubs are of epic proportions and always satisfying, especially the Mother Clubber with avocado, pesto mayo and melted mozzarella. But, let's never forget the off-the-menu eggs benedict bacon grilled cheese -- the classic bacon grilled cheese, with two poached eggs topped on top each half and drenched in hollandaise sauce.
Chesterfield's Gastro Diner // 1433 Wellington St. West
Chesterfield's breakfast sliders give you the choice of bacon or sausage on an English muffin, along with an egg and -- wait for it -- mayo. So good. They also have a vegetarian option, with a veggie patty, avocado and chipotle mayo (yum).
Art-Is-In Bakery // 250 City Centre Ave. #112
The French Toast Stack. This hollandaise-drenched stack of French toast pushes the envelope of the conventional breakfast sandwich and, quite literally, turns it inside out. The egg is placed on top but the melted cheddar and bacon remained sandwiched in between the toast.
Stoneface Dolly's // 416 Preston St.
This spot in Little Italy serves up a fine selection of lunchtime sandwiches, but their Bobby Mac sandwiches might be their speciality. The New Bobby Mac is probably the tastiest, with the grilled onions, but all the varieties are delicious and customizable. Sandwiches can be served on a classic English muffin or molasses bread.
The SconeWitch // Various Locations
The famous Eggwitch tosses out the bread and instead sandwiches the scrambled eggs, cheese and ham between a savoury scone. A small but filling treat.
Good Eats // 388 Albert St.
This flavourful to-go breakfast sandwich can be served both vegan and non-vegan. It's always made in a warm, homemade English muffin and with the absolute best type of cheese: Havarti. Their made-from-scratch spicy ketchup is dabbed in there as well and, for an extra dollar, you can add bacon. Please, always add the bacon.
