Toronto has a variety of amazing restaurants, and there's no shortage of delicious eats in the rest of the GTA. Markham and Richmond Hill are particularly known for their abundance of Asian restaurants, but that's not all they offer. If you live in York Region or feel like making the trip to the Markham/Richmond Hill area to try some new restaurants, we're here to help. Let us know what you think!

1. Little Saigon

9625 Yonge Street

This place serves the most authentic-tasting Vietnamese food you'll find in Markham or Richmond Hill (almost as good as my grandmother makes it). The pho soup is so good I can't even. The portions for the vermicelli dishes are pretty generous as well.

2. Duff's Famous Wings

9360 Bathurst St #1

Sick of eating at the same wing restaurant chains over and over again? Try this family-owned gem located on the border of Richmond Hill/Vaughan. Their Tuesday wing night special is $7.75! They also have two locations in Toronto.

3. Rifca's Mediterranean Kitchen

8950 Yonge St

There are a whole lot of shawarma restaurants all over Markham and Richmond Hill, but nothing beats Rifca's. It's literally the best shawarma place in Richmond Hill. Check it out, and you'll see why we think so.

4. Ichiban Fish House

9425 Leslie St

Their menus look a little sketchy, but their amazing sushi makes up for it. Their special rolls will give you the biggest sushigasms ever because they're so flipping delicious. Try the baked scallop roll and pizza roll (it actually tastes like pizza!)

5. Big Bone BBQ & Wicked Wings

180 Bullock Dr

Ribs, wings, and oh so many things on their wicked menu. They've won over 50 BBQ championships for their ribs, chicken, and sauces at various Ribfests across Ontario, so they're pretty legit. Who doesn't love BBQ?

6. Tomo Sushi

9625 Yonge St

You can literally taste the quality and freshness of the fish, which is why this restaurant is so great. Go to an AYCE sushi place and come back here, and you'll see what we mean. They even have fresh oysters (a rarity in Markham/Richmond Hill!) This place gets pretty busy on the weekends, so be sure to make reservations.

7. Pitalicious

7605 Woodbine Ave

It's somewhat isolated in a little plaza on Woodbine, but once you check it out you'll see they have the best shawarma in Markham. Their meat tastes so fresh and so clean (and delicious). They even make fresh baklava there and it makes for a delicious post-shawarma snack.

8. Kiku Japanese Cuisine

230 Commerce Valley Dr E #9

They have iPad menus, which is probably a good enough reason to come here. AYCE sushi restaurants typically aren't that great, but this place is one of the better ones. They also have a location in North York.

9. Joe's Hamburgers

10825 Yonge St

Another amazing shawarma place 'cause you can never have enough. Be sure to try their chicken shawarma!

10. Asian Garden Hakka Restaurant

883 16th Ave

This Chinese Hakka style restaurant serves 100% halal meat. The manchurian shrimp and manchurian fish are to die for (the shrimp is so spicy you might actually die). If you enjoy spicy, you'll definitely love this place.

11. Fraticelli's Italian Grill & Bar

10 Vogell Rd

There aren't a whole lot of Italian restaurants in Markham or Richmond Hill, but if you feel like eating Italian, Fraticelli's is the place to go. This restaurant hands down has the best service you'll get in any restaurant in Markham or Richmond Hill. If you like calamari, try their fritto misto! They also have a location in Burlington.
