Since the Canada student loan repayment freeze is over, there's a petition asking the federal government to do it again and keep it well into 2021.

An official petition was started on the House of Commons website back in November and there's only a little bit of time left to sign it.

last day to sign the petition

The petition calls on the federal government to implement a relief plan that extends the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB), includes newly graduating students and recent grads in EI and CRB programs, and expands Canada Student Grants.

It also asks for the freezing of student loan payments to be reinstated until May 1, 2021, with the possibility of future extensions.

You have until January 17, 2021, at 4:33 p.m. EST to sign this petition.

Repayments of student loans were put on hold from March 30 to September 30 and they started up again on October 1.

Marielle Hossack, a spokesperson for Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Carla Qualtrough's office, told Narcity that there are other supports for students in place.

That includes a commitment from the federal government to get rid of interest on the federal part of Canada Student Loans and Canada Apprentice Loans repayments for 2021-22.
