Police have charged three members of a Kingston, Ontario family with various counts of threatening death, forcible confinement, and assault with a weapon, among others, after they held a woman hostage in their home for 11 months. According to police, the woman was a 27-year-old who had moved to Kingston from the United States and one of her captors was her husband. That was when her nightmare began. The family started by stealing and hiding her official citizenship papers and her jewelry to make it so she would have no ID or financial means to get away but their crimes against her escalated as the time went on. @kingstonpoliceembedded via The family also isolated the women from her own relatives, monitored her phone calls, and even followed her around the house. She wasn't allowed to leave the home alone either. It was in April of this year that the family began to get more violent towards her. They pulled her hair, beat her, threatened to kill and at one point her husband's mother burnt her with hot metal tongs. It was shortly after that incident that she managed to escape and fled Kingston altogether. However, her husband and his family had previously convinced her the police wouldn't listen to her since she had no ID and wasn't from Canada so she didn't go to them until just recently, and when she did she waited until the middle of the night. @kingstonpoliceembedded via Just this past Wednesday police in Kingston executed a search warrant of the home and arrested the 59-year-old mother, 29-year-old husband, and his 27-year-old brother on the scene.
