A new candidate for the U.S. presidency was announced today and she has a major Canadian connection. A former student in Canada just announced that she is running against Donald Trump to become the next president of the United States. She is a 54-year-old Democratic Senator from California. Harris is the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India. According to Global News, she is currently the Democratic Party's best chance at attracting young, female and minority voters.\nREAD ALSO: Canada Was Named One Of The Most Beautiful Countries In The Entire World\nAccording to her website, Harris is the second African American woman in history to ever be elected to the U.S. Senate, and the first African American and the first woman to serve as Attorney General of the state of California.\nShe announced on Twitter today that she is running for U.S. president in the 2020 election, meaning the United States could get its first female president as soon as next year. The presidential candidate actually spent several years growing up in Montreal during her teen years! She graduated from Westmount high school in Montreal.\nHarris lived with her mom in Montreal while her mother taught at McGill University and worked at Jewish General Hospital.
