Andrew Scheer Is Desperate For RCMP To Investigate Trudeau But Canadians Want To Move On
Some Canadians believe Andrew Scheer is 'obsessed' with Trudeau.
It has been almost a week since investigated and arrested by police.that found Justin Trudeau to have breached Section 9 of the federal Conflict of Interest Act, following his involvement in the SNC-Lavalin scandal. From the moment the news broke, federal opposition leader Andrew Scheer has been calling for a more serious punishment for the Prime Minister, including suggesting he should be
However, as the Canadian federal election draws nearer, it seems that many Canadians are getting a little tired of Scheer’s trash-talk.
In a report released on Wednesday last week, Trudeau was found to have violated the Conflict of Interest Act, by attempting to use his position of power to encourage the former justice minister to come to a deferred prosecution agreement with engineering company SNC-Lavalin. While the Prime Minister did admit that his government had made mistakes with regard to SNC-Lavalin, he refused to accept that his party’s actions could be considered as criminal.
However, speaking in a video on Monday, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer made it clear he did think Trudeau’s actions were unlawful, explaining, “We know that Justin Trudeau has broken the law. Now we need to know if he has committed a crime.”
Despite Scheer’s insistence on his Twitter account that Canadians are outraged by Trudeau’s involvement in the SNC-Lavalin scandal, from the comments and replies it seems that perhaps the Canadian public is less-concerned than Scheer might think.
After posting the video calling on the RCMP to investigate Trudeau further, the Conservatve leader received a considerable amount of criticism, with most responses focused on Scheer’s short-comings, rather than Trudeau’s. One Twitter user wrote, “You are attempting to interfere in the judicial system. This is not going to go well for you.”
Another simply responded, “Oh Andy. So pathetic.”
Over the course of just 24 hours, Andrew Scheer’s official Twitter account actually tweeted about Justin Trudeau six times, causing Canadians to call the politician out on his ‘obsession’ with the Prime Minister. While each post from Scheer called on the RCMP to take further action into investigating Trudeau, a considerable number of Canadian Twitter users took the opportunity to let Scheer know how they felt about his persistent Trudeau-bashing.
One Twitter user wrote, “I’m worried for you Andy. That Trudeau obsession is getting unhealthy for you.”
While another responded to say, “Andy seems to have a little man complex as he is obsessed with Trudeau but never has a positive vision, or uplifting platform to showcase. It is hard to trust a politician that has no climate change plan and shamelessly let big oil corporations write it for him.”
A number of Canadian Twitter users also called Scheer out for being a ‘hypocrite’ after accusing the Trudeau of using his position of power to influence private interests, then using his own power to call on the RCMP to investigate something that he could potentially stand to gain from.
One user wrote, “This is the 3rd time today scheer has put political pressure on the R.C.M.P. This is clearly Obstruction of justice. He should be told to stop or he should be charged. He is abusing his power of leader of the opposition. political interference at its lowest. #ScheerDesperation.”
With the October federal election now only 61 short days away, it is clear that tensions between the two political leaders are mounting. While the effect that the SNC-Lavalin scandal will have on October’s vote remains to be seen, it seems that Scheer’s obsession with the case isn’t making him too popular, either.
