Not to freak you out or anything, but there's actually such thing as an antibiotic-resistant urinary tract infection (UTI). To be more specific, our antibiotics are no longer as effective for treating UTIs as they used to be. The World Health Organization claims that antibiotics that are commonly prescribed for UTIs are becoming less and less effective at warding off bacteria. Earlier this year, scientists found that E. coli bacteria, which causes UTIs, is 20 to 50 percent resistant to antibiotics. According to one health expert, bacteria evolve constantly, and more research needs to be done to find a new solution. "If we use antibiotics on them, eventually they develop to the point that the antibiotic no longer works and we need a new one. And globally, we are running out." You can do this by drinking tons of water to rinse potential bacteria out of your system. Never holding it in when you need to pee. And finally, ramping up on the cranberry content in your diet to protect your bladder wall from infection. @womenshealthctembedded via For more tips on how to prevent a UTI, click here.
