The Canadian Passport Is One Of The Best In The World For The 14th Year In A Row
It's good to have a Canadian passport.
When it comes to travelling outside of Canada, our nation's passport is pretty good and is getting recognition for being strong. A new list of the best passports in the world includes Canada for the 14th year in a row. So when you're jetting off to international destinations, be proud to show that little blue book.
The Henley Passport Index and Global Mobility Report for 2020 is the original ranking of official travel documents from around the world that are the best and Canada has made it into the top 10 once again.
According to the report, Canada is tied for 9th place along with Australia, Czech Republic, Malta and New Zealand with a score of 183.
Countries are ranked based on the number of destinations a person with that passport can travel too without getting a visa prior to their trip.
That means Canadians can travel to 183 countries around the world and get a visa when they arrive there or not need even one at all.
With so many countries that are easy to travel to for Canadians, like Japan, Denmark, Morocco, Armenia, Fiji, Barbados, Costa Rica and more, there are so many places to go where you don't have to worry about getting visas beforehand.
For the past 14 years, Canada has ranked in the top 10 of the Henley Passport Index.
However, since 2014 the Canadian passport has been dropping in the rankings.
It reached its peak spot of second-best in the world back in 2014 but then went down to the 4th spot the year after that, 6th spot from 2016 to 2019 and is now 9th.
Even though Canada's passport isn't the best right now, being ranked 9th overall out of all the countries in the world is pretty good and shows that our passport is strong.
For the 2020 rankings, Japan bested all the other countries and got top spot as the world's most powerful passports with a visa-free/visa-on-arrival score of 191.
Canada was also beaten out by Singapore, South Korea, Denmark, Austria and the U.S. to name a few.
When you travel next, be sure to do your research on whether or not you need a visa to get to your destination.
