They also welcomed news coming out of Alberta regarding the suspension of the Keystone XL Pipeline in a recent statement. The Green Party of Canada "The Green Party of Canada extends its congratulations to all Americans on the inauguration of President Biden and Vice-President Harris," the statement began. They also used this opportunity to discuss what the new administration could mean for Canada, especially in terms of climate. The first order of business was to congratulate the U.S. on their expected return to the Paris Agreement, a United Nations treaty on climate change. The U.S was reportedly the first nation in the world to withdraw from the agreement under the Trump administration. Next, the Green Party welcomed news of the anticipated cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline project. What's more, they said that Canada tends to fail at "basic international climate commitments," and as is gravely behind the U.S. As it stands, Biden has not given the green or red light for the pipeline project but constructions have halted in anticipation of his next move. They had some comments for the PM too. "[The] Prime Minister should not waste Canada’s diplomatic capital on pursuing the Keystone project, but rather work with the President to ensure North America becomes a world leader on the climate and the green economy."
