There's no doubt that this Christmas season is going to look very different, and Canada Post wants everyone to be prepared for that.

In a new video message, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer Rod Hart urges Canadians to start their online shopping for the holidays early this year.

He notes that the normal surge in packages that comes during the season could be overwhelmed by the influx of extra parcels from increased digital sales.

So this holiday season, please shop early. Support your favourite retailers. And most importantly, stay safe.

Canada Post is preparing as best as it can for the expected increases during the holiday season, though.

More than 4,000 temporary seasonal employees will be added to the ranks, as well as more than 1,000 vehicles.

There will also be weekend deliveries in many communities, more parcel pick-up locations, and extended hours at a number of post offices.

Canada Post has also upgraded its tracking system, providing more up-to-date information to customers.

Finally, all of this will be accomplished while still adhering to social-distancing protocols that have been put in place to keep employees safe.
