Canada's Last French Connection Store Will Finally Close This Month
French Connection closes their last remaining store in Canada as sales decline.
In the era of online retail, many brands are struggling to keep their brick and mortar stores standing. In 2019, we've already said goodbye to several - Jean Machine, Home Outfitters, Town Shoes, Gymboree, Payless ShoeSource, to name a few. Even the GAP is struggling to stay afloat. Now, it seems that French Connection is also about to become a relic of Canada's past.
French Connection - known for their 'FCUK' branded clothing that was oh-so-popular in the early 2000s, as I'm sure most of us remember - will be shuttering their very last Canadian location on Montreal's Ste-Catherine Street. The store is currently in the process of liquidating the last of their inventory, Retail Insider reports. The store will close permanently at the end of this month, on March 31st.
The Montreal store is the final bittersweet taste Canada will get of FCUK before it disappears altogether. Their Canadian online store and social media pages have already been laid to rest. Retail Insider points out that their now-deactivated Canadian Instagram account leads to a broken link.
French Connection is a UK-based brand that expanded into Canada around 1998 - around that time, the brand really boomed in popularity, peaking in 2004. From there, the brand saw a slow and steady decline in Canadian sales. Retail Insider reports that six French Connection stores were closed in the Toronto area between 2013 and 2018.
Last fall, French Connection closed their last store in Ontario at CF Sherway Gardens, their second-last store in Canada. If you want to get your hands on Canada's last remaining inventory of FCUK apparel, you better make your way to Montreal before the end of the month.
