The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued recalls on two sesame seed and four shredded coconut products due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The affected products include one-pound packages of bulk sesame seeds from Bulk Food Stop Inc. (2900 Warden Avenue, Scarborough), sold up to and including January 23, 2018 and White Sesame Seeds from ARZ Fine Foods (1909 Lawrence Avenue East, Toronto) packed on January 9, 2018.

The recall was triggered by the company and the CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

"Consumers should not consume the recalled products," and those who are "unsure if they have affected product are advised to check with their retailer," the CFIA says.

The industry is also recalling various brands of coconut products from the marketplace, including 227g packages of Green Field Frozen Shredded Young Coconut (UPC 7 12190 99714 4); 454g packages of Captain's Choice Shredded Coconut (UPC 8 934791 920105); 227g packages of Captain's Choice Shredded Young Coconut (UPC 8 934791 920112); and 227g packages of Coconut Tree Shredded Young Coconut (UPC 7 79139 06522 7). All affected packages were sold up to and including January 24, 2018. The distribution of these products are in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and possibly National.

This recall was triggered by CFIA test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

While there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of  any these products, if you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. All recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
