If you're heading outside today, you might want to keep your eyes to the sky. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds have announced that they will be flying over parts of southern Ontario on Friday to salute the province for its efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19. The cross-country flight comes as part of the Canadian Armed Force's new mission, which is being called Operation Inspiration.

The goal of the tour is to boost morale in Canadians who are struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Every year, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds travel the country putting smiles on the faces of Canadians," said Lieutenant-General Al Meinzinger, Commander Royal Canadian Air Force in a press release.

"While Canadians may not be able to gather at air shows, for now, we're honoured to bring the Snowbirds team to Canadians and to pay special tribute to them," he added.

The Snowbirds are scheduled to begin their journey from Ottawa around 10:30 a.m. today before flying over Perth, Smiths Falls, and Brockville.

The planes will then follow the Highway 401 corridor over Kingston and Belleville before landing at Canadian Forces Base Trenton.

Despite its encompassing journey, the flight will reportedly only take an hour with the planes scheduled to land in Trenton at 11:30 a.m.

The Snowbirds decided to shut down operations on March 20, 2020, to protect the team's health.

The members had been at home physically distancing before they decided to spread hope across Canada.

"We've been asked to do what we do best… inspire Canadians," said Lieutenant-Colonel Mike French, Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces Snowbirds.

"Through Operation INSPIRATION, we not only want to salute the front-line health-care workers, first responders, and essential workers but also all Canadians doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19. We want Canadians to know we are in this with you," he added.

The beloved Snowbirds have so far flown above Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick Quebec, and Ottawa.
