Canadian Tennis Star Bianca Andreescu's Winning Streak Ends After An Injury
Canadian Tennis Star Bianca Andreescu from Mississauga, Ontario forfeits match at Miami Open after suffering a shoulder injury.
Canadian teen Bianca Andreescu has been winning match after match at the Miami Open, and fans have been seriously impressed by her victory streak. However, all of that, unfortunately, came to an end today, all because of an injury. Canadian Tennis Star Bianca Andreescu's winning streak at the Miami Open just ended after she suffered an injury.
18-year-old tennis star Bianca Andreescu was forced to forfeit the match against Anett Kontaveit of Estonia today, who is ranked 21st in the world, on Monday, March 25, due to a right shoulder injury. Before this loss, she was on a 10 game win streak at the Miami Open.
"I tried to get as much treatment as I can," Andreescu told reporters after forfeiting the match, CBC News reports. "I thought it would be OK, but obviously it just got worse as the match progressed."
Fortunately, doctors have assured Andreescu that the injury is not serious. "I have played so many matches, I guess this is just a way of my body telling me that it's had enough," Andreescu said. "It's disappointing, but it's part of the sport."
Unfortunately, the injury has been causing trouble for the rising tennis star throughout the entire tournament. Before forfeiting, her most recent match this past weekend led to a win against Angelique Kerber, who is ranked eighth in the world. However, Andreescu's injury impacted the game, and she had to take a medical timeout and also had a trainer work on her shoulder during the match.
Kerber was allegedly salty over the loss and called Andreescu "the biggest drama queen ever". People believe that her insult was in regards to the Canadian star's shoulder injury, resulting in her needing for medical support during the match.
Fans were outraged over Kerber's actions and demanded a public apology from her to Andreescu.
I can’t put into words what all of this means to me.Being able to have my name amongst so many great champions is beyond remarkable.Thank you for everyone’s support! All those tough times are worth it if you believe there will be good times ahead #bibirisen #flyingB #thankful #omg pic.twitter.com/EYsEYkpkDY— Bianca V. Andreescu said that due to her injury, she will no longer be competing in another tournament next week in Charleston, South Carolina, according to CBC News. However, get ready to see this young star dominate next month because she still plans to represent Canada in a Fed Cup tie on clay in the Czech Republic in April.
The Canadian tennis star has been very happy with her run at the Miami Open. "It's been an incredible run, a Cinderella story, like a lot of you guys said," Andreescu said, CBC News reports. "It's a dream come true, so I'm really pleased."
Bianca Andreescu has been making waves lately as a rising tennis star. She even made Canadian tennis history recently when one week ago, she was the first woman wildcard to ever take home the Indian Wells Trophy at the BNP Paribas Open. The Mississauga teen has also moved up the rankings immensely in 2019. She started the year off as No. 152 and is now ranked No. 24 in the world!
