Air Canada has been named the best airline in North America for the second year in a row at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, which are voted on by travelers around the world. The company took to Twitter to announce and celebrate their victory but were met with a lot of responses from Canadians who don't agree with the award at all. We’re thrilled to be named Best Airline in North America at the #Skytrax World Airline Awards, where our investments in fleet, global network, best-in-class cabin interiors, new Signature Service & more were recognized by our customers! Their reactions to the news on Twitter range from shock to disagreement to utter disbelief. Thats not saying alot for the other airlines in North America 😒 Had terrible flight and service last Christmas. Will never fly Air Canada again.. — Whitesheep (@whitesheep15) July 17, 2018 Must have found that award in a cereal box — Josh-Anthony Brown (@AnthonyJBrown93) July 17, 2018 I had to look it up, because I thought "that just can't be right". But then I realized it was for "best" in North America. I guess when the bar is set that low, it's a bit easier to win. Try aiming for "World's Best", instead of "Slightly less bad than the other nearby turds" — Martin (@mgouellet) July 18, 2018 A lot of people are also citing the Air Canada Facebook page in their tweets, mentioning that the community feed is full of negative reviews from customers who have vowed never to fly with the airline again. According to them, those kinds of reviews say more about how people feel about Air Canada than winning the votes at the Skytrax awards does. is this a self award? cause your facebook shows alot of people who will never fly @AirCanada again. i know myself my bags were lost for 7 days and 3 years later still no compensation for me having to use my trip money to buy clothes and food — Lucas Stafford Jr (@casanovaent) July 17, 2018 None the less there are still a number of people who have absolutely no problems with the airline and are supporting and congratulating them online. You are our favourite! Well deserved @aircanada — HelenBurns (@helenburns) July 18, 2018 Congrats @AirCanada I fly with you almost every week, it’s no surprise that you’ve been recognized again! — Andrew Thompson (@A_Thompson66) July 18, 2018 Air Canada isn't the only Canadian company to take home a prize at the awards this year. Air Transat was named World's Best Leisure Airline, while West-Jet won the award for North America's Best Low-Cost Airline.
