Donald Trump just made another wild claim about Canadians in regards to the trade war and this time Canadians are trolling him right back. Trump claimed that in order to avoid paying US tariffs on goods, such as shoes, we are literally just wearing them across the border and passing them off as old. @adidasontimeembedded via According to Trump Canadians “buy shoes and they wear ‘em. They scuff ‘em up to make ‘em sound old, or look old.” Trump made the comments while addressing the National Federation of Business in Washington. Apparently, as Trump told the crowd, this is Canadians' only resort to get basic American products, like shoes, since the tariffs are so high. @realdonaldtrumpembedded via Obviously, the claims are ridiculous and Canadians are responding to Trump online in the best way possible by trolling him. Many are reminding the President that we have our own shoe stores on this side of the border, while others are just making a big joke of the whole situation. Uh, Canadian here. We actually have our own shoe stores. Designers from all over the world have opened shops in our big cities, in some of the smaller ones, too, so kiss our maple-loving asses, Trump🇨🇦and stop talking smack, or no oil for you. — Leslie (@glowbelle1) 19 June 2018 Someone tell Donald Trump that we have dirt cheap shoes in Canada. And someone tell Ivanka that we don't buy HERS — Barb ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (@barb_hill) June 19, 2018 We have to cross the Niagara River in the middle of the night with our 'scuffed up' American shoes. Dangerous crossing but we need shoes! — DebbieG (@DebbieGable3) June 19, 2018 To make matters worse, Donald Trump claimed that he got the story from a "major newspaper" that reported on shoe smuggling happening, yet no one has been able to find anything remotely similarly published anywhere.
