According to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS), paramedics were called to an area close to Irvine, Alberta, just after 9:30 AM GMT on Sunday morning to assist with a deadly plane crash out of Medicine Hat. The fatal incident involved a small plane. Alongside paramedics, Redcliffe RCMP were assisted by numerous search and rescue teams, including responders from Medicine Hat and Halo Helicopter, as they searched southeast Alberta and the Moose Jaw area for the downed plane. The plane departed at 10:15 PM GMT on Saturday, June 1, with the intention of taking the 90-minute flight from the Medicine Hat airport in Alberta to Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the flight never arrived at its destination. Corporal Curtis Peters, spokesperson for the Alberta RCMP said, “the flight was expected to take about an hour and a half and when the plane failed to arrive in Moose Jaw, families there contacted authorities and the search was started." Alberta Health Services confirmed that the bodies of three males were recovered, but their ages have not been released by police. Corporal Peters said that the search is now over and identities of the deceased were unknown to police at the time. He also said the investigation will now be passed over to the Transportation Safety Board to examine why the plane crashed and consider the circumstances that lead up to the fatal crash. Peters confirmed that no further details about the victims are likely to be released, however, The Star Phoenix reports that one of the victims was former Saskatoon Hilltops and University of Saskatchewan Huskies football player Justin Filteau, who was 26 years old. It's not known why he was on the small plane.
