It seems like inflammatory comments calling out immigrants on national television isn't exactly a career-ending move. Don Cherry's poppy rant which cost him his job at Sportsnet has gotten him a new job offer. A professional hockey team from Russia wants him as their analyst.\nHC Dynamo Moscow, a professional hockey team from Russia, has thrown their support behind Cherry and actually offered him a job with the team.\nIn a tweet on November 12, not even a day after Cherry was fired from Sportsnet, HC Dynamo Moscow asked him to come to Russia and be an analyst for the team.\nThey even offered to make him a new suit.\n"We heard that you were fired. It’s not good! Come to Russia, we need an analyst for Dynamo TV," the team said in the tweet.\nHey, Don Cherry @CoachsCornerDC. We heard that you were fired. It’s not good!Come to Russia, we need an analyst for Dynamo TV who could talk whatever he thinks. We love old soldiers. And we will make a nice suit!We hope you agree. #WeAreDynamo pic.twitter.com/5WiwikHZgQ— HC Dynamo Moscow (@dynamo_ru) November 12, 2019\nOn the November 9 broadcast of Hockey Night In Canada's Coach's Corner, Cherry made comments about "you people" coming to Canada yet not wearing poppies to honour Canada's soldiers.\n"You people that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that," Cherry said on Coach's Corner.\n"These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price."\nThe comments are being taken as anti-immigrant.\nCherry denied that the comments were about immigrants even though he literally said, "you people that come here."\nWhat he said on Coach's Corner got a lot of backlash online from Canadians upset at his comment and so many people complained to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council that its website literally couldn't take any more.\nEven NDP leader Jagmeet Singh addressed Cherry's "you people" comment by tweeting a photo of his great grandfather who served in World War I and World War II.\nDespite all the backlash, HC Dynamo Moscow still wants Cherry to come work for them.\nBut people aren't convinced that HC Dynamo Moscow actually knows anything about Cherry, citing his past comments about Russia and Russian hockey players.\n"If there's anything Don Cherry is known for, it's his love of Russians," one user wrote sarcastically.\nClearly you've never watched coaches corner. First episode of Comrades Corner:-Don talks about how he feels about European and Russian hockey players...-Don is never seen or heard from again— Jon Ciarlo (@jciarlo) November 12, 2019\nHey Dynamo, Cherry hates Russians. He literally said (when Russians were first breaking into the NHL) "we don't want 'rm here and they don't want to be here." As far as I can tell, Russians want to play in the NHL, but Cherry clearly doesn't want them to. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers."\nThe 85-year-old still has some career options despite his comment. But it'll require a serious change of scenery.\nThere are stories everywhere. If you spot a newsworthy event in your city, send us a message, photo, or video @NarcityCanada on Twitter and Instagram.
