Doug Ford Announced What His First Big Spending Item As Premier Will Be
He is going to build a new monument in Queen's Park
Ontario's Premier-Designate Doug Ford just officially announced a big spending item and one of the first things he will do in office.
Doug Ford said he is going to have a monument built in honour of Canadians who fought in Afghanistan.
@canadianforcesHe made the announcement at a meeting with the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.
"A new generation of heroes, who fought bravely against the terrorists of Al Qaeda and the Taliban, walk among us," said Ford. "Too many of those heroes are struggling with the scars of their sacrifice. As a province and as a country, we must always remember the 159 Canadians who never returned from Afghanistan."
@bb_buttercupFord's announcement included a prospective location for the monument, in Ontario's official legislative grounds, Queen's Park, in Toronto. However, he did not provide any details regarding the timeline or cost. Those will be discussed at a meeting of MPPs later.
While Ford did not talk about cost, a few years ago Afghanistan war monuments went up in small communities across Canada and each cost up to $20 000.
