Jagmeet Singh's Leaders' Debate Performance Is Converting Voters On Twitter
The NDP leader is suddenly very popular!
It’s been a pretty good 24 hours for New Democratic Party leader, Jagmeet Singh. Not only has Singh been widely applauded for his contribution to Monday night’s English-language leaders’ debate, he has also been followed on Instagram by both , and has earned himself the title
If that wasn't good enough for Singh, Canadians are now taking to social media to contact the NDP leader to let him know that he had officially earned their vote in October's upcoming federal election.
Following two successful English-language leaders' debates, many Canadians seem to be both surprised and impressed byand his strong responses to questions.
After Monday night's debate finished at 9 p.m., Canadians took to Twitter to explain to Singh how he had well and truly won their vote.
Responding to the NDP leader’s own Twitter post about Monday night’s debate, one Canadian Twitter user responded, “You stayed focused on point and were easily the most passionate and personable candidate on stage. You won my vote this election! Congrats on the debate win tonight!”
Another also shared a similar message with Singh, posting to say, “Spoke with my daughters about voting pragmatically but that it was tearing me up inside .. they won’t vote scared they said and neither should I .. my NDP sign goes up tomorrow - well done tonight.”
Several Canadian Twitter users also responded to Jagmeet Singh’s most recent Twitter post to let him know that they would be considering voting for him in 2019, despite previously having political alliances to other parties.
One person explained, “I’ve voted Conservative my whole life but you sir did a phenomenal job tonight and gave me reason to think. You presented yourself admirably amongst a bunch of stiff and fake people (some certifiably crazy) and it was refreshing to see a normal guy up there. Well done!”
Another shared a similar message, tweeting, “You were the only one on that stage I didn’t completely hate. Looks like I’m voting NDP for the first time in my life. Thanks for showing what real leadership looks like.”
According to the Toronto Sun, Campaign Research’s latest job approval ratings saw Jagmeet Singh soar from 22% to 33% between September and October.
For perspective, both Justin Trudeau and Andrew Scheer only have 31% and 29% job approval ratings, respectively.
Both Trudeau and Scheer also have higher negatives from the study, with 54% of Canadians saying they disapprove of the job Trudeau is doing, while 47% disapprove of Scheer. In comparison, just 29% of Canadians disapprove of Singh.
With the federal election now only mere weeks away, it remains to be seen how many Canadians will go out and vote for Singh.
That said, things are certainly looking positive for the NDP leader, and
