No, it's not your phone or your wifi connection. Facebook was down for over two hours today. This outage comes exactly a month after Facebook's last major outage on March 13 and 14. The outage this morning began around 6:30 AM EDT with people all around the world unable to access Facebook, Instagram, or Whatsapp. The outages affected users in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. At one point during the outage, reports indicated that all three apps run by the Facebook platform were down for 80% of users. Fortunately for the majority of these users, Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp were all back up around 9 AM EDT, two and a half hours after the app first went down. Others aren't so lucky, however. According to the website Down Detector, Facebook is still experiencing outages in some parts of the world, especially in the UK. Based on their live outage map, Facebook is still down for a number of users around the world, but for whatever reason, the highest concentration of outages is in the UK. People on Twitter, have confirmed these ongoing outages, saying that despite the platform being back up, they are still unable to access Facebook or Instagram and are having troubles loading the pages or logging in to their accounts. Speaking of Twitter, during the outage people flocked to the platform to confirm that Facebook was in fact down and to share their thoughts on the situation. Some of their reactions were hilarious. On top of that, the reason for Facebook going down is still not known. Last month, Facebook cited a server configuration issue as the cause of the outage.
