Multiple Cities Across Ontario Are Offering Free Transit For New Year's Eve
From Toronto to Ottawa.
New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration, a time to let loose, have a few drinks, and write-up a workout routine that you have no intention of following. However, if you’re going to be drinking, that means you can’t drive. Luckily, Ontario public transit will be free in cities across the province, so you don't have to worry about your ride home.
Yes, all across Ontario, partiers will be able to celebrate the end of 2019 by riding the bus or subway free of charge.
The province-wide initiative is meant to promote personal safety by convincing residents to leave their cars at home and travel responsibly on Tuesday, December 31, 2019.
So, which cities are offering this service? Well, Toronto announcedthat it would be continuing its tradition of providing complimentary transit to late-night travellers and celebrators on routes in the city.
The service will run until 7 a.m. on January 1, 2020.
Ottawa’s OC Transpo began its reduced weekday schedule on Dec. 23, 2019, which runs until Jan. 3, 2020.
According to CBC, Transit is free after 5:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve and until 4 a.m. New Year's Day to help you get home safe and sound.
Guelph Transit is also telling residents to leave the car at home on New Year’s Eve by offering free transit.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31, there will be no charge on all of their bus routes.
London Transit, in partnership with Corus Radio, will offer free bus rides from 8:00 p.m to end of service on both Conventional and Specialized transit, so there is no need to tap your Smart Card during this time!
