Ontario's Highway 401 is receiving a hundred million dollar investment as part of a newly confirmed expansion project for the prominent roadway. According to a new press release, Canadian construction company Aecon Group Inc. announced that a new deal has finally been reached for the Highway 401 expansion project. Over $639 million will be funnelled into the expansion of North America's busiest highway.\n"Along with our partners, Parsons and Amico, we are pleased to work with Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Transportation to deliver this significant project which will ultimately reduce traffic congestion and improve quality of life for commuters along the GTA corridor," explains the Aecon Group's CEO.\nThe expansion will be an estimated 18-kilometre reconstruction and widening project centred on the western part of the Greater Toronto Area. Two-10-lane segments will be opened with two-12 lane core collector systems alongside median high occupancy vehicle lanes.\nDaily commuters will definitely stand to benefit from the project as it is suspected to reduce traffic congestion, daily travel time and improve the overall quality of life for those who travel on the road regularly. It will include numerous road and bridge repairs. According to Ontario.ca, the project is expected to be finished by the end of 2023.
