Are you still using dating apps, even with a global pandemic going on? If so, Newfoundland & Labrador's health minister as a message for you. John Haggie is taking the internet by storm after he told people to be careful when using Tinder and Grindr. He's also had more meme-able moments during the daily COVID-19 press conferences. Sometimes you need a government official to warn people about dating apps to really put everything in perspective. While speaking at a press conference, Haggie brought up technology and how people are choosing to use it to keep in touch while still maintaining a physical distance between themselves and others. "Whilst we have stressed technology for keeping socially connected, again, there are challenges with the use of that," he said. The health and community services minister mentioned that he had been asked to bring up the issue of dating apps. After citing an uptick in usage, he had a warning for people who are still going on those kinds of apps. "If you use Tinder or Grindr and you swipe right, you might get more than you bargained for," Haggie said. He went on the ask people to be careful when using dating apps or meeting new people during COVID-19. “If you use Tinder or Grindr, and you swipe right, you might get more than you bargained for”NL Health Minister @Johnrockdoc with his daily meme-able moment, this time on dating apps in the time of CoVID-19👏👏👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/Ygf5KVMQ6w— Melissa Royle Critch (@melissaroyle) April 2, 2020 Every day brings another quotable moment from our venerable Minister of Health, “If you use Tinder or Grindr and you swipe right, you might get more than your bargained for” -Haggie— Amy P. But it's still funny. For those just discovering Haggie, he's said some pretty hilarious things in previous press conferences, like asking people to not let their kids lick shopping carts. He also schools people on how to behave during COVID-19. “Don’t take your children with you to the grocery store. And please don’t let them lick the handles on the shopping cart.”...is what Dr. Haggie gave us earlier this week.— Devin Heroux (@Devin_Heroux) April 2, 2020 Has @Johnrockdoc ever been quoted in cross-stitch before? Thanks to Jaimie Feener of Feener and Thread for sharing her representation of Health Minister John Haggie's quote during Monday's update. #covid19nfld pic.twitter.com/fDkZueVqtg— CBC Newfoundland and Labrador (@CBCNL) March 31, 2020 Common sense is not all that common Please don't let you kids lick the shopping carts!!! He's also got a little bit of a fan club going on Twitter. One person said, "every day I look forward to 2:30PM to listen to the shade John Haggie is gonna throw about how stupid Newfoundlanders are taking this isolation." Another even asked Jimmy Kimmel to comment on Haggie's Tinder and Grindr statement. One of those stories that has a huge life lesson to it.But he leaves just before realization of it sinks it.— Cahhrles - Law Abiding Homebody (@SmokesIndoors) March 29, 2020 John Haggie becoming a Memelord out of left field; Nobody seem this coming 🤣— Blake Thornhill (@ThornBlake) April 2, 2020 Thinking of starting a John Haggie update drinking game. Whenever he says ‘Facebook’, ‘shed’ or ‘snapshot in time’ take a drink. He’s doing a great job but I need something to take the edge off. #covid19nfld #covidnl #nlpoli— Mark Critch (@markcritch) March 31, 2020 Newfoundland & Labrador has strict rules in place when it comes to COVID-19, including mandatory self-isolation for people who arrive in the province, even if they come from other parts of Canada. One woman was even arrested twice in one week for refusing to self-isolate after coming back from a trip outside of the country.
