Amazon Is Building A New Facility In Quebec & Hiring For Hundreds Of Jobs
More than 300 full-time jobs will be up for grabs when the warehouse opens.
An American e-commerce and tech giant is coming north of the border once again. This time, it's bringing a bunch of job opportunities with it. New Amazon Quebec jobs are coming as the company plans to build a new warehouse in the province.
Amazon announced that it is planning on building a fulfilment centre in Quebec which would create more than 300 new full-time jobs in the area.
"We're excited about our growth in Montreal, which gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers across Quebec," said Alexandre Gagnon, vice president of Amazon Canada, in a news release.
The new facility will be located in Lachine, a borough of the city of Montreal, which is on the Island of Montreal.
At a fulfilment centre, employees will handle customer items including picking them from what's in stock, packing them, and then shipping them off to customers. Those products could range anywhere from toys to pet products to electronics.
When you order something on Amazon, the warehouses that store the products are also distribution centres where employees pick, pack, and ship your order.
A fulfillment centre is where all that happens and it's called that because that's where your order is fulfilled.
Even though employees work to get your items and ship them out to you, these centres also use robotics, scanning machines, and computer systems to track millions of items a day.
The more than 300 new, full-time jobs at Amazon's fulfillment centre in Quebec come with comprehensive pay and benefits starting right away in a workplace that Amazon boasts is safe and innovative.
If you become employed at Amazon's new facility in Montreal, you get benefits that include medical, vision, and dental coverage, a group retirement plan, performance-based bonuses and more.
Employees can also get access to Amazon's career program that pays up to 95% of tuition for courses related to fields that are in-demand, even if it's not for skills you need for a career at Amazon.
And there might be more on the horizon when it comes to Amazon in Quebec. According to La Presse, a provincial document obtained in February 2019 showed that the company is looking to invest up to $1 billion in Quebec over a 10-year period.
"The Greater Montreal area has a talented workforce, and we are committed to providing the area with great job opportunities that have comprehensive pay and benefits," said Gagnon.
Amazon's fulfillment centre in Montreal will open in time for the 2020 holiday shopping season.
