If National Donut Day on Friday wasn’t enough to satisfy your sweet cravings for the weekend, worry not! Ontario’s huge annual Butter Tart Festival is back, and it is bigger than ever! The festival, which will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m today, is expected to sell upwards of 200,000 sugary treats, and they look incredible!\nThe massive annual festival is located on King Street and David Onley Park in Midland, which is about 40 minutes north of Barrie on the shore of Georgian Bay. With glorious weather forecasted for the rest of the day in the province, it is the perfect get-together for locals who want to celebrate the Canadian-sweet treat.\nAccording to the Butter Tart Festival Website, there will be approximately 200 vendors at the event, on hand prepared to bake and sell anywhere between 150,000 and 200,000 butter tarts, and the options for flavours are endless!\nAmong the classic flavours of maple and pecan, the festival also has some more unusual flavours like bacon, coconut, and peanut butter and jelly. There are also gluten-free and vegan tarts available for visitors with dietary restrictions.\nNot to miss out on this extra-Canadian events, even the Government of Canada Twitter page gave the Butter Tart Festival a nod with a buttery pun. On Friday night the page tweeted “We love these sweet treats from the bottom of our tarts and we hope you do too.”\nOne website has even given attendees a list of ‘tips’ to truly get the most out of the event. Applicants are both professional and amateur/home bakers and the contest features both 'traditional' and 'wild style' categories.
