One of Ontario's top doctors was forced to remind residents that COVID-19 is real. 

Dr. Barbara Yaffe, associate chief medical officer of health, revealed on Tuesday during a press conference that she regularly receives conspiracy emails about Ontario COVID-19 cases.

I do get a lot of emails from the public, some of them are saying 'you're making this up, this is a conspiracy there isn't really anything happening.'

"It's hard to believe that anybody actually believes that, but they are, and it's important for people to know this is real," she added during the conference. 

Yaffe went on to further scold COVID-19 deniers by stating that the province's rising case numbers could affect their families. 

She concluded by asking residents to take responsibility and do what they can to protect each other.

"It's in all of our powers to change our behaviours and do what we can to prevent the transmission of this infection." 

Premier Doug Ford announced a new stay-at-home order yesterday, which comes into effect on January 14 at 12:01 a.m.

The new restrictions will prevent Ontarians from leaving their homes except for essential trips.
