Now, this is a crazy story! The York Regional Police has brought down two separate huge Ontario crime rings north of Toronto. Authorities allegedly captured guns, vehicles, and a $45-million haul of illegal drugs.\nPolice have charged 50 people in connection with two major organized crime busts, according to CBC News.\nThe two projects, referred to by the names Moon and Zen, were shuttered with the help of Canadian Border Service Agency and other services including Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police.\nProject Zen, which goes back to 2018, was based around a house in Vaughan which had been previously identified as a potential drug epicentre. Up until now, eight arrests had been made with 38 charges after finding weapons and drugs.\nAccording to the York Regional Police statement, the amount of fentanyl recovered in Project Zen "is the largest seizure of its kind in York Region." CBC reports five kilograms of the potentially lethal substance was found.\nThe @YRP Organized Crime Bureau seized $40 million in drugs from Project Moon alone. For Project Zen, police seized: 19Kg of cocaine, 16.5Kg of methamphetamine pills, and more than 56Kg of cannabis. pic.twitter.com/jB7VNVW5h3— 105.9 The Region (@1059TheRegion) August 8, 2019\nProject Moon included "suspects related to Asian organized crime groups and street gangs" according to the statement, which isn't necessarily something you hear every day. These groups were producing and supplying drugs.\nThis project spanned southern Ontario and helped arrest 42 people in connection with the crimes, two of whom are gang members from the Parkdale area.\n.@YRP Supt. Mike Slack says the number of fentanyl-related overdoses is steadily rising. Stressing he importance of the amount of fentanyl seized here. It is not on display as police say it’s too dangerous. pic.twitter.com/v9HHTqtq8m— Mark Carcasole (@MarkCarcGlobal) August 8, 2019\nPeople are praising the strong efforts of these officers responsible for the busts.\nI assure you that my constituents in Thornhill (protected by York Regional Police) are delighted by this telling blow against gun-wielding, death-dealing organized criminals. Kudos to @YRP— Hon. Peter Kent (@KentThornhillMP) August 8, 2019\nOMG,I’m speechless.Well done @YRP— Mural (@mural1099) August 8, 2019\nSo glad that @YRP officers worked so hard to get this amount of guns and cash off the streets.— Leigh Buchan (@lives2talk) August 8, 2019\nThank you for trying to keep our streets safe— Bernadette Mason (@bernie_mason) August 8, 2019\nAlong with the outrageous amount of fentanyl, police recovered weaponry, cannabis, cocaine, and methamphetamine pills from the Vaughan house involved in Project Zen.\nProject Moon, meanwhile, yielded weed plants, 560 kilograms of dried cannabis, 23 kilos of methamphetamine, over 15,000 MDMA pills, four kilos of magic mushrooms, 400 Viagra pills, and an assortment of firearms.\nNow that's a lot of drugs off the streets.
