The day has come! After months of waiting, all Ontario IKEA stores have reopened on Tuesday, May 26. All five locations in the province are now welcoming back customers but with strict guidelines. And, if you were hoping to get in line for some of its famous meatballs at the in-store restaurant, we've got bad news. According to a press release issued Tuesday morning, all five Ontario stores in Burlington, Etobicoke, Ottawa, North York, and Vaughan are now open. “As we begin to reopen store locations in certain markets, our top priority continues to be the health and safety of our co-workers, customers and communities,” said Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Canada in the press release. The release also notes that the IKEA Restaurant and children’s play area will remain closed in each store, while the IKEA Bistro will be open for takeout only. So, if you want to get your hands on the store's famous Swedish meatballs, you'll have to get them to go for the time being. If nothing else, IKEA stores sell packs of its Kottbullar meatballs for $9.99 per kilogram. If you're obsessed with Swedish meatballs, that means you can still stock up! While the reopening is a big win for IKEA lovers, you'll have to follow the current rules in place and practice social distancing. The release details some of these measures, and they're pretty much what you'd expect. For a start, there will be strict distancing rules in place, as well as signage for lineups. The number of customers inside at one time will also be limited to make sure everyone is spread out. There will also be hand sanitizer and proper health guidelines in place to ensure everyone’s safety. IKEA isn't the only leading home store to open up again across the province this week. Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls will all be reopening their Ontario stores tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27. News of these latest reopenings comes as Ontario's latest COVID-19 updates show the lowest numbers in almost two months. How's that for a step in the right direction?
