Online shopping seems to be the way most people are buying things these days, much to the dismay of actual stores.

The biggest of all the online retailers, Amazon, has just announced that it’s going to be opening a new warehouse in Ottawa.

And with that comes a whole lot of new jobs for the city as well.

The new warehouse will employ 1,000 new people.

And this space is going to be massive, according to documents filed with the city the facility will be over one million square feet and require 99 truck bays and more than 1,000 parking spaces.

Orléans MP Andrew Leslie says that this is a great thing for the city "it will employ approximately 1,000 people, good middle class jobs, and it's going to be a transportation hub."

Getting the online retailer to come to the city is something that has been in the works for a long time.

"We have been working with Amazon for a couple of months now and we are just thrilled that it's all coming to maturation," Leslie said.

The provincial, federal and municipal government have all had a role in getting Amazon to come to Ottawa.

Ottawa was one of the cities that bid to get Amazon’s second HQ but did not make the cut, Toronto is still in the running for that though.

So while it didn’t get the big prize Ottawa is still getting an Amazon location and tons of new jobs.
