Canada's known for having the longest coastline in the world, and now, we're doing our part to protect it.

On July 9, it was announced that Canada's joining the Global Ocean Alliance, an international group of countries around the world working to protect 30% of the world's coastal and marine life in the next 10 years.

Countries in the Global Ocean Alliance

Founded last year by Great Britain, the Alliance includes countries like Germany, Italy, Sweden and Fiji, reports CBC.

By 2025, their goal is to protect at least 25% of oceans.

Last year, Canada successfully protected 14% of its coast and ocean life, through conservation efforts and by creating marine protected areas.

As part of its effort to help marine life, Canada committed $61 million to save at-risk killer whales in 2018.
