It seemed almost too good to be true that an Ontario couple would be giving away their house for $25. Turns out it was too good to be true. The Ottawa house contest is closed and the house is now for sale for $1.1 million.\nThis whole thing started back in June when an Ottawa couple who flips houses decided to give away their newly renovated house in a contest after it wasn't selling on the market.\nLyne Burton, the salesperson for the house, told Narcity that the couple wanted to try something different with their home.\nConnie and Allan McIntosh really took doing something unique to heart and so the contest began. All people had to do was pay a $25 entry fee and write a letter about why you wanted to live there.\nThe entry fee was that it was a legal giveaway in the eyes of the OLG but also to get their money's worth out of the house, which they had just renovated.\nThough the whole "write a letter, win a house" idea was nice, it just wasn't attainable for the couple.\nOn the contest website the couple wrote, "Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we are falling well short of our target for the #WinOttawaHouse campaign and will need to refund the entry fees to participants and put the house on the market."\nThough people found the idea interesting, seeing as they had thousands of people entering the contest as it says on the website, but a few were not surprised to find out that the contest didn't actually work out and still don't think the house will sell.\nhttps://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/d6dtif/write_a_letter_win_this_house_contest_cancelled/f0sihdo?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x from https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa\nhttps://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/d6dtif/write_a_letter_win_this_house_contest_cancelled/f0so2h7?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x from https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa\nhttps://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/d6dtif/write_a_letter_win_this_house_contest_cancelled/f0tapvh?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x from https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa\nhttps://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/d6dtif/write_a_letter_win_this_house_contest_cancelled/f0se51l?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x from https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa\nThe house is now on the market for $1,129,000 with Lyne Burton and Dominique Milne of Engel & Völkers Ottawa Central, Brokerage but time will tell if it will sell this time or if the owners might again turn to alternatives.\nIt was originally built in 1968 but it's modern looking thanks to the couple's renovations. The house has four bedrooms plus one in the basement and four bathrooms.\nYellit Media | Engel & Völkers Ottawa Central\nYellit Media | Engel & Völkers Ottawa Central\nYellit Media | Engel & Völkers Ottawa Central\nIt was previously on the market from January to May but it didn't end up getting sold and that's what led to the contest.\nAnd even though the contest is closed, the couple and those who entered the contest still have some work to do.\n"We appreciate your patience as it will take us some time to do the paperwork and refunds, rest assured we won’t let you down," the couple wrote on the contest website.\nIf you entered the contest, you can wait to get your money back or opt to have the $25 donated to charity.\nThere are stories everywhere.
