Ottawa's Skateway team carried out a unique rescue mission after being notified about a stranded stuffed reindeer on the Rideau Canal. \nThe team first became aware of the tragic situation on January 19, 2021, when a photo of the snow-covered deer was posted on Twitter, with a cry for help in the caption.\nEditor's Choice: Ice ‘Crop Circles’ Have Appeared On Ottawa’s Rideau Canal & They Are Out Of This World\n\nAfter several hours of relentless searching, our courageous NCC Skateway team saved a stuffed baby deer from a most tragic end. He is now safe and sound while he defrosts! We know a young owner who will be very happy to find him. 😉🦌 pic.twitter.com/mGcImYFV1c— RideauCanalSkateway (@NCC_Skateway) January 19, 2021\n\nDominique Huras, strategic communications advisor at NCC told Narcity that a toddler tossed the stuffie onto the canal from the walkway.\nSince the canal is currently closed, the family was unable to retrieve it.\nWithin hours of receiving the message about the stranded toy, a Skateway team member bravely headed onto the ice to find it.\n\nIt took some scraping and shovelling to uncover the deer as it was buried in a mound of snow, but eventually, it was located.\nThe team is in contact with the owner and are now trying to set up a reunion for the lost reindeer.\nHuras said this is the first time anything like this has happened at the canal, and that it's lucky the stuffie was able to be retrieved safely.\n"We really like these [...] happy endings during these times.
