Zak's Diner In Ottawa Is Expanding Into A Mexican Cantina This Month
It's gonna be a fiesta.
There's no question that Zak's Diner is an Ottawa legend in its own right. This 24 hour diner has been operating in Ottawa's downtown for 30 years and has served people from all walks of life. Naturally, when we got the news that they were expanding into a Mexican cantina, we got excited.
Opening next door to their ByWard Market location is Zak's Cantina, which will be serving up Mexican street food in a colourful ambient restaurant. Oh, and you'll be able to eat inside a bus - a so-called chicken bus that's typical in Latin America which has been placed inside the restaurant.
There's no firm opening date other than June, so keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks in the Market. The cantina was originally supposed to open in May but had been put back.
Menu items will be typical Mexican and Tex-Mex fare like burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and many more flavourful favourites we can't wait to devour on. One item that I'm particularly looking forward to is the "Street Dog" with salsa, lettuce, bacon, refried beans and avocado ranch. Like, look at the picture up above. Blessed.
Operating hours will be Monday - Friday 11am - 9pm and Saturday - Sunday 12pm - 8pm. This is short in comparison to Zak's Diner hours, but still gives foodies ample time in the afternoons and evenings to chow down on some delicious Mexican.
