Residents throughout the Maritimes are getting prepared as Hurricane Dorian is expected to fully hit the area by the end of Saturday night. With the Halifax government already issuing a voluntary evacuation order, many people in Nova Scotia have started to clear the area. However, some residents have started to flock towards Peggys Cove near the water, to get a look at the hurricane as it starts to roll through, and Canadians are begging them to stop. We strongly advise that you check the most recent updates on potential hazards, security, water quality, and closures before traveling to a location. Yesterday, the Government of Halifax issued a voluntary evacuation order for Peggys Cove and other areas around Nova Scotia due to high waves and strong winds that could create dangerous conditions for those who live near the water. With waves expected to reach up to seven meters high, and winds expected to reach as high as 150 km/h, the government highly encouraged people to leave the area and to stay away from the water, as these waves are capable of pulling people into the ocean. However, despite the warning, it seems that some residents are actually flocking to Peggys Cove in an attempts to see the waves, as Hurricane Dorian starts to enter the Canadian shoreline. Nova Scotia Webcams has a series of cameras placed around Nova Scotia that Canadians are able to view in live time. While many Canadians are using the website to see the effects of the hurricane, they are also shocked to discover people lining up outside of the popular lighthouse to get a good look. Since people have been spotted in the area, Peggys Cove has started to trend on Twitter as multiple Canadians urge people to stay at home during the deadly conditions that are about to hit the province. Seriously, why are there people at Peggy’s Cove??? This is endangering everyone! Go home! We have a perfectly good webcam if you want to see the waves! #NovaScotia #NSstorm #HurricaineDorian https://t.co/sm5IeQndnF pic.twitter.com/5T7CHs6cPO— Beth Fox (@firebethfox) September 7, 2019 Traffic jam at Peggy's Cove. The Red Cross currently has evacuation shelters opened across the province to accommodate those who wish to evacuate the area for their safety.
