The Northern Lights are a surreal celestial sight that many people want to see at least once in their lifetime. Usually, in Canada, the lights can only be strongly seen in the northern parts, such as in the Yukon or Northwest Territories. However, much of that changed this week, when the Northern Lights were seen in Canada, in southern regions, and even parts of the United States. The Northern Lights sure made a rare special appearance. Starting early Tuesday morning on May 14 and up until early this morning, the lights shone in several regions across the country and in Northern U.S., according to The Weather Network. One of the places where it shone a beautiful and intense light show? Alberta. It stunned locals in several parts of the province, even reportedly making an appearance in Edmonton, an Alberta city where it usually isn't seen. Locals were able to capture some photos of the rare Northern Light sighting and they sure are surreal. Luckily for us, they posted it on social media so we can all experience it for ourselves. If you weren't able to see them in your city, make sure to check out these photos and get a glimpse into the beauty of the magnificent light show that took place this week. Those are the colors we see when oxygen is hit by electrons raining down from space during a geomagnetic storm. Last night, however, Harlan Thomas of Calgary, Alberta, witnessed a different color: deep-blue. pic.twitter.com/fldAK6fyHb— Betsey Lewis (@betseyJLewis1) May 12, 2019 WOW!
