People are buzzing with the possibility that some Royals could be spending a lot more time in the great white north soon. Nothing is for sure yet but that hasn't stopped people from speculating about what's next for the Duke and Duchess. Not all of it is good news. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moving to Canada could mean your tax dollars pay for their security while they're here.\nIn a statement to Global News, Cpl. Caroline Duval of the RCMP said that Prince Harry and his family are what's known as Internationally Protected Persons and while in Canada, they're entitled to protection by the RCMP.\n"As part of its mandate, the RCMP is responsible at all times for the safety and security of visiting members of the Royal Family while they are in Canada," said Duval.\nIt's not cheap to do that. According to Turbo Tax Canada, a big chunk of the country's tax income is used for security and infrastructure. That includes the RCMP.\nIf they move to Canada while keeping the royal title, that extra cost is likely.\n"I don't believe they can refuse the government of Canada's security," Larry Busch, an ex-RCMP officer who's directed security for the Royal Family before, told Reuters.\nWhile nothing has been confirmed, since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would "step back" as senior members of the Royal Family and split their time between the U.K. and North America, many have been wondering if a move to the true north is in the cards for these two, especially since the couple seems to love spending time here.\nView this post on Instagram “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” - The Duke and Duchess of Sussex For more information, please visit sussexroyal.com (link in bio) Image © PA A post shared by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (@sussexroyal) on Jan 8, 2020 at 10:33am PST\nThey just vacationed in B.C. over the holidays with their son Archie and are already coming back.\nMarkle returned to Vancouver Island to be with Archie after the announcement she and her husband would become financially independent.
