Earlier today, three members of Doug Ford's caucus attended an anti-abortion rally in Toronto to speak up about how abortion should be 'unthinkable'. Niagra West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, Scarborough Centre MPP Christina Mitas, and Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma all stood together on stage during the rally as they spoke against the rights women should have to get an abortion. They argued that they were pro-life and that abortion shouldn't be legal throughout Ontario.\nAccording to CBC News, Sam Oosterhoff, 21, stood on stage in front of a crowd of anti-abortion protestors in Queen's Park and spoke with them about abortion rights in Ontario. He stated that "We have survived 50 years of abortion in Canada and we pledge to fight to make abortion unthinkable in our lifetime."\nHe also told CBC News that he has no problem in bringing the anti-abortion issue up at the provincial legislature to ensure that our province is "respecting life no matter how small a child is."\nAfter his speech, Oosterhoff thanked the audience for attending the rally stating that they believed in the "rights of children."\nView this post on Instagram 📚 Earlier this month, Finance Minister @vicfedeli tabled our first budget. 💵 The budget protects what matters most, the vital services Ontarians depend on, while charting a clear path back to balance. Why is it so important to balance the budget? Because we spend almost $13 BILLION a year on just the interest payments for our $350 billion debt. This debt will keep rising, and the interest will keep cutting into services we need, if we don’t get it under control. So why am I proud of this budget? Because it provides hope for kids like Cressida, who the second they were born inherited almost $50,000 of debt. Now, they won’t be crippled by staggering debt and interest payments. 💳 Like your credit card, governments can max out their. That’s what the Liberals did. We won’t do that. That’s why we are getting Ontario’s finance back on track, while protecting what matters most. ✅✅✅ A post shared by Sam Oosterhoff (@samoosterhoff) on Apr 24, 2019 at 12:33pm PDT\nAfter the Conservative MPP's have pledged to put a stop to legal abortions earlier this morning, Ford gathered his caucus for a meeting to discuss abortion in Ontario before his office released a statement. According to CP24, Ford's office stated that his provincial government will not re-open the abortion debate.\nSince the incident, NDP leader Andrea Horwath has also released a statement. She says that she is horrified with the events that took place at this rally today and that Doug Ford's statement didn't go far enough. She states, "We are horrified that Doug Ford continues to refuse to denounce his MPP's dangerous, anti-choice and anti-women position,".\nView this post on Instagram Every woman has the right to make decisions about her health care, and her body. Sam Oosterhoff and Doug Ford have no right to attack that. A post shared by Andrea Horwath (@andreahorwathndp) on May 9, 2019 at 12:55pm PDT\nOf course, a lot of Ontarians seem to agree with Horwath and many have reached out through Twitter to express their anger over the anti-abortion rally that took place. Many were concerned that the lead speaker of this rally, Sam Oosterhoff, was a man who was speaking on behalf of women's rights.\nAnybody want to clue Sam in that he’ll never need to have an abortion? I don’t think he understands....— Claire (@JemmsCee2) May 9, 2019\nThe 1950s are calling you, Sam! #youreinthewrongcentury— J☮hn 3 Point O (@John2PointO) May 9, 2019\nHe doesn't have a uterus therefore his words and opinions mean squat involving abortion!— Beth aka SussexSquad Member #93 (@pinka84) May 9, 2019\nThese people are such hypocrites. They want to ban abortion but they don't want to fund childcare, universal and public healthcare, schools or raise the minimum wage. I hope the people of your riding make your re-election unthinkable. Not sure what gives you the right to tell a woman what she does with her body, it's gross.— Ryan Amirault 🇨🇦 (@RCAstudios) May 9, 2019\nHey look a white Male telling women what they can do with their bodies. Fuck off mate— Flembot5000 (@Henryofthewoods) May 9, 2019\nWhile Ford has stated that the government will not revisit the abortion debate, he has made it clear in previous encounters that he is pro-life. According to CP24, Ford told the anti-abortion website 'Right Now' that he was pro-life, but has stated that Canadians have the rights to make their own decisions.\n*Disclaimer: cover photo is used for illustrative purposes only.
