Skating Pair Kirsten Moore-Towers And Michael Marinaro Representing Canada At The Worlds This Week
Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro are representing Canada at the skating world championships and they're essentially the new Tessa and Scott.
Move over Tessa and Scott, there's a new Canadian skating pair making waves on the international stage. Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro are representing Canada at the worlds this week in Saitama, Japan. In the standings right now, they are only a few spots away from the podium.
Currently, the International Skating Union (ISU) is holding their World Championships in Japan and Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro are part of the team representing Canada there. Heading into the competition, the ISU even named them as a pair to watch since they took home silver at the 2019 Four Continents championship.
However, after the pairs short program, the duo has a score of 73.08 which lands them in 5th place. In first right now is a pair from Russia, Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov. Their score is 81.21, which is less than 10 points ahead of the Canadian team. Meanwhile, the team from China that's in third only has 75.51 points. That means Moore-Towers and Marinaro are just shy of reaching the podium right now, but the competition isn't over yet.
The pair will skate again tonight, but their scores aren't the only things we know about this hot skating pair.
The pair, who are both from Southern Ontario began working together in 2014. Kirsten is from St. Catherines while Michael is from Sarnia. None the less, the pair currently live in Montreal and train in Saint Leonard, Quebec.
Like Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the pair also competed on the world stage at the 2018 Olympics but only came in 11th. None the less, like Tessa and Scott, Kirsten and Michael have a ton of on-ice chemistry.
Both of their Instagram accounts are filled with beautiful moments the pair have shared on the ice, many captured by Skate Canada photographer Danielle Earl, and even some cute pics from off the ice too.
Again, like Tessa and Scott though, this pair is not a couple in real life. In fact, both Kirsten and Michael are actually dating other Canadian figure skaters.
Kirsten is dating Liam Firus who skated at the 2014 Olympics while Michael is dating Jacinthe Brodeur, who no longer skates but competed in the Canadian championships in 2009.
Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro take to the ice tonight at 9:30 PM ET to take their shot at the World Championships in Japan.
