Swoop Airlines passengers are facing more flight cancellations this week. The low-cost airline announced on Sunday evening that it would be cancelling nearly a dozen flights due to unscheduled aircraft maintenance. According to BNN Blomberg, the Swoop cancellations are due to safety concerns regarding two separate aircrafts.

“First and foremost, we’d like to apologize. We know first-hand how disruptive it is when travel doesn’t go as planned, and we’re deeply sorry for the disruption. Safety must and will always be at the forefront of our decision making, and we are working around the clock to reaccommodate impacted travellers as quickly and safely as possible,” Swoop stated in a travel advisory posted to their website.

Routes affected by the unscheduled maintenance include flights between Hamilton, Winnipeg and Orlando from July 7th to July 10th, 2019. The airline has assured travellers that they will be rebooked on the next available Swoop flight. They can also cancel their bookings for a full refund.

A Swoop Airlines representative said in a statement to Narcity, "Unscheduled maintenance was required to replace an engine on the aircraft which had a leaking oil seal. This requires a significant amount of work and disassembly in order to fully repair the issue and has resulted in a number of delayed or cancelled flights across our network."*

However, getting through to customer service proved to be a task in itself:

The cancellations come just one week after passengers travelling from Hamilton to Las Vegas were stranded on a Swoop plane for several hours. The airline had cancelled the trip due to unscheduled maintenance, forcing passengers to wait on the aircraft without air conditioning. The heat was so bad that one flight attendant was even treated for heatstroke.

Hamilton Police were called to the airport just after 10 PM to help airline crew members assist the displaced passengers. CBC reports that crew members had heard a metal object enter the plane’s engine, but this detail remains unconfirmed.
