There have been some major changes to what happens on movie theatre screens across the country before showtime. There are no answers though about why it all went down. Tanner Zipchen was let go by Cineplex back in January but he doesn't actually know why it happened and fans miss seeing him when they watch movies.\nIf you've been at a Cineplex theatre before a movie starts sometime in the last five years, you've probably seen Tanner Zipchen hosting the Pre-Show.\nIn an interview with the Toronto Star, the on-screen personality opened up about being fired by Cineplex and how it all went down.\nThe whole process was apparently pretty quick.\nHe revealed to the Star that he was called in for a short meeting, thanked for his work with the company and then sent home. He also wasn't told why he was being let go.\nZipchen told the Toronto paper that he's disappointed that his work with Cineplex has ended but he's still grateful for the opportunity he got.\n"You look back and wonder, how did I get here? I never would have thought this would be where we'd end up," he said.\nHe was let go on January 13 and announced it on social media which led to an outpouring of support from Canadian movie-goers.\nPeople are still missing seeing him on the screen when they go to Cineplex theatres and are not pleased with how he was treated.\nOn Twitter, one person even said, "my movie watching experience has been ruined."\nGood for you, @TannerZipchen, for speaking out, albeit cautiously. Everyone deserves fair payment for their work. Too many young workers are exploited by big companies that hide behind corporate BS. https://t.co/j49BTD1u0C— Mike Donachie 🥶 (@Mike_Donachie) February 15, 2020\nIt is jarring not hearing @TannerZipchen’s voice in the pre-show anymore. And while I'm only one person, I'll be boycotting @CineplexMovies until they bring back @TannerZipchen— SodapopCosplay (@SodapopCosplay) February 9, 2020\n"It is jarring not hearing Tanner Zipchen's voice in the pre-show anymore," one person tweeted.\nAnother said, "I'll be boycotting Cineplex until they bring back Tanner Zipchen."\nThe former host also told the Star that when he first started with Cineplex, he was rewarded with Scene points for the unpaid position.\nZipchen eventually got paid a "small monthly fee" for writing articles but after his one-year contract was up in 2016, he pushed to become a full-time employee with a regular salary.\n"You can’t pay a mortgage with Scene points," he said.\nThe Cineplex preshow just isn’t the same without @TannerZipchen.— Erin Laidley (@eclaidley) February 9, 2020\nSaw a movie yesterday and was extremely disappointed to not see @TannerZipchen in the pre-show. Cineplex just isn’t the same without him 😭— Kenny Sue (@kenny22sue) February 9, 2020\nI'm at a @CineplexMovies theatre and there was no pre-show before the movie. No Tanner Zipchen, no movie trivia, no JOY. My movie watching experience has been ruined.— Anders Yates (@AndersYates) February 11, 2020\nI’m at Cineplex for the first time this year and the fact that @TannerZipchen is not talking to me is very upsetting. That’s it that’s the tweet. Okay see ya ✌🏽— skylar (@GGal56) February 13, 2020\nWhy am I forced to listen to these charisma vacuums?— Jonathan Burdett (@jburd22) February 13, 2020\npic.twitter.com/3TTNbYOaJa— Jonathan Burdett (@jburd22) February 13, 2020\nBeing let go is still raw for Zipchen and for movie-goers all over Canada who were fans of him but he doesn't want to be negative about these last five years.\n"I knew what I was getting into. You have to be prepared to make sacrifices," he said. "It was a chance to follow my passion and do what I love."\nAs for his replacement, Narcity reached out to Cineplex about there being new hosts of the Pre-Show, however, they declined to comment on any of the speculation.\nCineplex announced in December 2019 that it had been bought by Cineworld, a U.K.-based movie company. Less than a month after that, Zipchen was let go.\nThe buyout could bring the company's Unlimited movie pass to Canada which is like an all-you-can-watch subscription service at theatres.
