With the announcement by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that the couple would be taking a step back from the royal family, one company seemed to get very excited. The Tim Hortons Twitter account got some attention after offering the couple free coffee if they move to Canada. Unfortunately, not everyone was pleased with that offer. "No pressure, Meghan and Harry, but if you do choose to move to Canada, free coffee for life. Think about it," Tim Hortons wrote in a January 8 tweet. The message seemed to anticipate the couple permanently returning to Canada after spending the holidays here with their son, Archie. While the couple did not say that they would be moving to Canada specifically, they did mention dividing their time between the United Kingdom and North America in an Instagram post. Though it might have just been a cute offer to drum up a little bit of publicity, the tweet seems to have backfired with the average Tim Hortons customer. Since being posted, the tweet has racked up over 750 replies, and not all of them have something positive to say about the company. People have responded with criticisms of Tim Hortons' work practices, as well as outrage that the average Canadian can't even get a free coffee. Think about it.— Tim Hortons (@TimHortons) January 9, 2020 So you'll give 2 ppl who have done jack shit for Canada free coffee for life, but I have bought thousands, and I get nothing? Makes sense.— Jon-Paul LeBlanc (@jonpaul_9) January 9, 2020 i will boycott your company if you do this. pay your workers fair salary with full hrs. along with benefits for dental and healthcare. stop giving the rich freebies over the poor charities who need your help in each community your franchise is located in.— joanne p (@jokanep) January 9, 2020 "So you'll give 2 ppl who have done jack shit for Canada free coffee for life, but I have bought thousands, and I get nothing? Tim Hortons can afford to give free coffee to royalty but a ten cent raise for workers is too much?— Bryce Doe (@BryceDoe) January 9, 2020 So obnoxious when a predatory corporation that refuses to pay their employees a living wage tries to be hip & hilarious on the internet.— Leanne (@LestrangeB1974) January 9, 2020 You're allowing tables and chairs to be removed from stores so paying patrons cannot sit and you're offering ROYALTY free coffee? Take that thought and set up a homeless free coffee/water station with a sign on it that says 'please help yourself to our restroom'.— MtPleasant (@HeideJaklin) January 9, 2020 Tim's is getting roastedWhich is new for them, much like their coffees they're used to getting burned— Award Winning Klowny J🤡 (@KlownyJ) January 9, 2020 PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES A LIVING WAGE! BEFORE OFFERING FREE COFFEE TO PEOPLE WHO CAN ACTUALLY OFFORD IT.— Sandra P. Cole (@Sandra_Cole44) January 9, 2020 Or you could offer this to our war veterans.......Think about it.— Stu Schwartz (@StuntmanStu) January 9, 2020 You think either one would be remotely interested if they knew your stance towards paying employees properly? Or towards the homeless? Your franchisees' policies go directly against everything these two Royals stand for. Do better Timmies.— Tertiary Person-#ChooseForward 🐓🍷☘ (@kaythird) January 9, 2020 Yikes.Tim Horton's...you got this one wrong guys.I have my Timmie's every day but this tweet shows you guys are out of touch with reality. Most of your staff struggle with the pay and these 2 are filthy rich.I know you were trying to be kind of funny, it was misguided here— Maple Leaf Fan (@Maple_Leaf_Fan) January 9, 2020 Canadians died in a plane crash, people serving off shore, and Tim’s decides to offer free coffee for life to the snobbish British royalty. I know it’s a joke but, it’s a bad look. All I ask is that, you get paying people’s orders right.— Rah42 (@rm90276) January 9, 2020 Meghan and Harry, I recommend @McDonalds coffee instead of Timmies. At McDonald's, the coffee comes out of the hole at the top of the lid. At Tim Hortons, the coffee comes out the side. pic.twitter.com/1GEH0rOaEy— Chris Johnston (@chrisakachuck) January 9, 2020 Tim Hortons has already received some negative attention recently for their new lids, which people appear to truly hate (including Justin Bieber). Whether or not Harry and Meghan are moving to Canada is still anyone's guess, but if they do, they could be guaranteed a double-double every day. There are stories everywhere.
