The shocking moment a gunman started shooting into a Toronto restaurant on a busy Sunday evening has been captured on video from two different perspectives. Multiple shots can be heard from the footage, with someone in the background asking if the sounds were of a nearby car backfiring. "Is it from that car," the person asks. The second video, taken by a resident who lived in the area, shows passerbys confused at the sound of gunshots and moving away from the sidewalk. The 29-year-old gunman reportedly shot at random pedestrians waiting to cross the street as he headed towards the restaurant, and then proceeded to shoot more bullets at diners inside once he arrived there. Somebody yelled get down, and everyone immediately got down on the floor. Andrew Mantzios, who was having coffee with friends at a nearby fountain, told The Globe and Mail of the moment he saw the gunman execute one of the victims. "A lady tried to run and she fell down," he says. "He turned around and shot her point blank, two or three times." "[People were] falling all over the place — maybe seven, eight, nine of them . . . I've never seen anything like that, I'm still in shock." Other witnesses say they heard him fire around 20 to 30 gun shots altogether. The entire incident only lasted a few minutes, but caused immediate chaos as police rushed to the scene. The mass shooting left a total of two victims dead and 12 others injured. Among the victims is a young girl aged eight or nine, who was sent to hospital in critical condition. The gunman was also found dead in a nearby alley, however it is not clear whether he died by suicide or via interactions with police. Toronto has seen 220 shootings so far this year, putting 2018 on track to becoming one of the city's most violent years yet. Sunday's mass shooting is not believed to involve gang activity, which Toronto police have attributed as the cause to other shootings that have plagued the city in recent weeks. However, they do believe the incident was not random.
