Seven officers were injured on Saturday night after an altercation in the Eglinton and Oakwood area. Four of the Toronto police officers were treated in hospital for their injuries.

Police say an altercation occurred just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, at the same time and place that a peaceful protest to support Black-owned businesses was ongoing.

Those involved in the incident are not believed to have been part of the peaceful protest, police say.

The march occurred between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., and moved between Keele Street to Oakwood Avenue.

Towards the end of the demonstration, several individuals started to "engage in negative activity,” say police. The situation escalated and an altercation occurred.

Of the seven officials injured, four were taken to hospital. All of the officers have since been treated and released.

Two people have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
