Police in the York Region is currently searching for a man who pulled off one of the strangest crimes of 2018. The incident occurred overnight on October 9th around 2:30 AM at the ONroute King City stop on King Road.

The security footage of the crime was released today by police and shows the thief taking a donation box full of money for those affected by poverty. During the heist, the suspect whipped a giant pair of bolt cutters out of his pants to cut a tiny wire the box was attached to.

York Regional Police shared the surveillance footage on their YouTube channel on November 13th but the robbery initially occurred on October 9th. The video begins with the thief walking up to the counter and checking out the donation box before walking away and returning to actively trying cutting the wire it's fixed to at 0:24

Due to the thickness of the wire, the cutters aren't able to make it through when the thief exits the screen once again. When he returns, he strangely whips a giant pair of bolt cutters out of his pants at around 0:43. Once he cuts the wire, he swiftly leaves with the donation box. 

Police have stated in a media release that the donation box was for the HMSHost Foundation and contained a large amount of cash. According to their website, HMSHost Foundation is a charity that fights poverty by combating hunger, helping access education, financial stability through education or job training, and serving veterans in need.

Police have described the suspect as a medium build white male with an unshaven face, aged around 25 to 30 years old and standing between 5'6 and 5'8.
