The ranking is based on a study that focuses on a combination of economic stability, health and emotional well-being of people in 155 countries. Based on accumulated data from global surveys that measured human satisfaction in each country for things like freedom, social support and perceived corruption, Norway took the top spot, with Denmark (the previous No. 1) falling to second place this year. Third, fourth and fifth place were taken by Iceland, Switzerland and Finland, respectively.
The US, by contrast, showed signs of an increasing decline in happiness, moving down a spot from 13th place last year to 14th place this year. An overall trend of increasing mean-spiritedness was also noted across the globe in general.
