Longo’s Grocery Worker In Vaughan Tests Positive For COVID-19
The store has been shut down for cleaning.
A Longo's in Vaughan, Ontario has temporarily shut down after one of their staff members tested positive for COVID-19. The grocery retailer states that the team member worked at the Weston and Rutherford location and is now in self-isolation. This was the first reported case of the novel coronavirus at Longo's.
According to a statement from Longo's, "this is the first confirmed case in one of our stores."
"We want to assure you that our stores and Team Members have been operating under heightened preventative measures and in accordance with recommendations from public health to protect against the spread of COVID-19."
According to CP24, the employee at Weston and Rutherford was on March 26.
The chain now says they will be until Saturday to sanitize the building.
"In an abundance of caution, we will be temporarily closing our Weston Road location until Saturday morning to further investigate the situation and implement appropriate measures above and beyond our already elevated sanitation and cleaning protocols."
According to multiple reports, a driver from Grocery Gateway by Longo's also tested positive for the virus on March 25. However, the driver did not go to that Longo's location to pick up food, according to Global News.
Instead, the driver went to a separate facility where all online orders are picked up. It is reported that the delivery driver's vehicle has since been cleaned.
Longo's is now working on informing team members who were around both individuals and directing them to go into self-isolation.
According to CTV News, the grocery chain will be paying employees while they self-isolate.
Narcity has reached out to Longo's for a comment and is awaiting a response.
This isn't the first time this month that a grocery worker has tested positive for COVID-19 in Ontario.
Earlier this week, ain Oshawa closed its doors temporarily after one of its workers tested positive for the disease.
All shoppers who may have been exposed were notified by email.
