$1.50 Rides For GO And UP Riders Begin This Weekend

Transferring from GO or UP to the TTC is about to get a heck of a lot cheaper for Toronto's commuters. As of January 7th, the cost of a one-way fare will decrease to just $1.50 for all riders who transfer between the transit systems.
Transit riders who use the PRESTO card and transfer between GO Transit or the UP Express and the TTC in either direction will be eligible for the 50 per cent discount on the Toronto transit portion. The discount is exclusively available to users who pay as they go with their PRESTO card balance and will be automatically applied when riders tap their card while transferring.
The discount is not available on PRESTO's monthly pass or a Metreopass on PRESTO cards.
According to a statement by issued by Mayor John Tory last year, the fare reduction will save regular commuters about $720 per year. And in addition to the savings, trip planner resource Triplinx will also launch a feature that will be able to calculate fares when planning your route.
Here's to hoping this isn't the last discount the TTC gives us before the year is over.
