Ontario Premier Doug Ford is having a very busy day. First there are reports that next week the province is changing how it will sell marijuana and now he’d gotten into a fight with the mayor of Canada’s largest city. Doug Ford is going to completely change the way that Toronto holds its municipal elections. And mayor John Tory is not having it. @jornalnorthnewsembedded via So how is Ford changing the way that city holds its own elections? He’s going to cut the number of city councillors from 47 all the way down to just 25, along the lines used by provincal and federal elections in the city. Upon hearing the news Toronto’s mayor called a press conference to offer a strong condemnation of the move by Ford. @fordnationdougfordembedded via He says that Ford told him he would do this a yesterday but Tory was not on board with the idea at all, "what I just can’t support is change being rammed down our throats without a single second of public consultation,” he said, Tory suggested that the city hold a referendum and vote on the idea, not just change it because of Ford. “Changing our government structure without public consultation isn’t right and isn’t necessary. Change of this magnitude needs the public to be heard. We are talking about a city of three million people; they deserve to be heard.” Tory, who used to lead Ford’s PC party, seemed incredibly frustrated with the premier at his press conference. @johntoryembedded via Some see this a Ford settling old scores from his own time as a city councilor.
