Thousands of trick-or-treaters took to the streets of Toronto on Halloween, hoping to bring in a big haul of candy this year. Even Doug Ford himself entertained a few costumed kids while hanging out on the steps of Queen’s Park on Thursday night. A video of Ford talking with a group of trick-or-treaters caused quite a stir on Twitter after the Premier was seen shaking hands with a kid who was dressed up like him.

In the video, Ford can be seen asking the kids which one of them dressed up as him for Halloween. The group then points him to a child in a suit to which Ford responds, “Oh, okay, so you’re the Premier? I can tell you got that Premier look.” Ford and his little mini-me then shake hands and pose for a picture.

The whole interaction only lasted a couple of seconds, but it didn’t take long for social media to pick up on it. Torontonians filled the thread of the video with about as much shade as those things can handle, calling out the Premier on everything from his education cuts to his lack of leadership.

One user even stating, "It's NOT a compliment, Doug. You dress up as scary things on Hallowe'en..."

“Give them candy and steal their future,” wrote one user, who clearly wasn’t impressed with Ford’s antics. “I can't imagine a scarier costume, then dressing up as Doug Ford,” wrote another.

Ford wasn’t the only Ontario politician seen interacting with trick or treaters on Halloween.

Mayor John Tory also visited with a group of costumed kids outside of his office on Thursday. Tory, who dressed up as a Star Trek character, talked to the kids about the importance of safety while reminding them to always brush their teeth after eating candy.

The two events were remarkably similar. However, Ford appeared to be taking a lot more hits online over his interaction than Tory, which isn’t that surprising considering all of the protests that have been held against him recently.
